A Broadway and London hit, this play was also produced as a film by MGM. It was titled Gaslight and starred Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer, Angel Street is the second longest running mystery in Broadway history. It tells the story of the Manninghams, a newly married couple who appear to be the essence of Victorian tranquility. It is soon apparent, however, that the suavely handsome Mr. Manningham is slowly driving his gentle, devoted wife, Bella, to the brink of insanity with an insinuating kindness which masks more sinister motives. As the story unfolds, the author builds and sustains some of the most brilliant, suspenseful sequences in modern theatre.
